There is a new article making its rounds on the innanets, and the nigganets too. The New York Times, that bastion of liberal thought and philosophy – least according to Fox News, though I am thoroughly confused as to what constitutes liberal nowadays (digressions, that cool refreshing drink!) – has published an article purporting to summarize the findings of several studies that all conclude that niggas can’t read, are all going to get locked up, and probably will rape a white girl, all before the age of 25.
You can read the article, entitled Plight Deepens for Black Men, Studies Warn, by clicking its title. But I got something to say. See, I said HERE, that the one thing that will oppress a group of people faster than a Mexican can hop a border is the misuse of statistics to prove a stereotype.
But before the meat and potatoes, there are warnings and indications that this article is going to be a crock of shit.
May I ask, what these experts are expert in; the life patterns of young black men, young black men in general, or life patterns in general? Meaning are they, the experts, headed by Jay-Z, the average white chic, or a sociologist? And really, isn’t it overkill to list 3 ivy league schools and “other institutions”? And finally, note the “HUGE POOL” of uneducated niggers (cause that is what the Times is really saying here). What then do we, and by “we” I mean “I” – cause apparently I am the only person not buying this line of bullshit – what then do I call the group of uneducated white non-hispanics who neither attend college nor complete high school? Fucking “super dupper dippy gigant-normous”!
Fact- according to the 2003 US census report, (page 4. Sonny “I be citing my authority”Redd), 34.8 % of black men who were over 25 years old had completed high school, compared to (and the fun keeps coming) a mere 31.5% of white (non-hispanics...I love it!) men of the same age. This statistic is really stunning when you remember that there are merely 36 million black people in the US, as opposed to over 180 million white people. Yes, there are five times more white people in America than black people. That means, iffin our pool of uneducation is huge...then...uh...theirs must be huge times 5!
Considering I gave all this thought to an errant adjective in an introductory paragraph of a throwaway feature story, I think you know where I am heading.
The article asserts three “recent findings”, yet attributes these findings to no one in particular – not to mention that the transition was a bit amateurish (Digressions was a popular drink and it still is). I assume these findings were compiled by the same “experts” on young black men from above.
Anyone who spends any time in the black community knows that the only niggas selling dope are the niggas rapping bout being drug kingpins. Husslin’ – the fine art of selling crack – (as opposed to hustling, which is what I do and encourage you to do when you are on your hustle) is as dead as Tupac, no matter how much Ric Ross says he knows the real Noriega (that nigga was in the pokey when Ross was in diapers. Hot song, though) or Cassidy be swearing he be cooking crack, that game is dead, and was dying when Shawn C. Carter (who is ‘bout 5 or 6 years older than my old ass) was driving I95.
Fact -- there were 2.1 million people in state or federal prision or jail in 2004 (I got Cites out the ass! Holla! Google nigga, What!?!?!) of that, 842,500 were black males. A shameful number. Almost 1 million brothers on lock down. But that is not why we are here today—the article asserts a “finding” that 21% of niggas who didn’t attend college were in jail or prison. That also means that 79% weren’t, but let’s not belabor the obvious.
Anyway, the article says that there were 5 million black males between the ages of 20 and 39. This little number is a scare tactic, because the reader now fears that there are 5 million darkies trying to steal their hubcaps or rape their daughters.
My problem with such “stories” is that they work to produce two equally obnoxious outcomes. First, they reassure those in our community who, as Bill Cosby pointed out, aren’t pulling their end, that it isn’t their fault that they are failing. Fuck that, and fuck them. Bill didn’t say it, but I will. Secondly, they foster a paternalistic environment wherein white folk act like we can’t succeed. Again, fuck that and fuck them. I feel like I am repeating myself.
On the other hand, we can always just turn up ‘Dem Franchise Boys’ and lean wit it. Shit, maybe the NY Times is right, I’m out of touch, and we’re all fucked.
